Introducing Catherine Wilson

The best part of my job is the research. There, I said it. Having visitors to tour the complex is fine, paying bills or performing custodial tasks is necessary, but finding information about people, places, and events is the BEST. Of course, one topic leads to another, and one question leads to at least five more.

Greene County has such a rich history, from the earliest inhabitants building mounds to the latest aerospace technology. What we have at the museum is primarily the things people used in everyday life, from about 1800 to 1950. Two of the buildings interpret daily life, with artifacts in their proper places almost like the family had stepped out for a minute. Why yes, the Galloways have all just gone for a stroll; let’s visit their house. Mr and Mrs Flynn won’t mind if we pop by, even though we know they are not at home.
That is another part of doing research: what daily life might have looked like for the Galloway or Flynn family, or others living during those times. It helps to know how many people were residing at an address, what they did during work or leisure time, and how their experiences differ from modern life. What might be different in the life of someone employed by the local merchant than by the merchant’s family? We are always looking for additional answers.
